Recital Hair and Attire
HAIR AND ACCESSORIES 2025
Please arrive to dress rehearsal and to the recital day with hair already in place. Use generous amounts of hair gel and/or hairspray to make sure your dancer’s hair stays in place and to control “wispies”.
Here are the guidelines for how hair is to be worn:
Dance with Me, Creative Movement, Tiny, and Beginning Levels: Hair half up-half down. Click HERE to watch an instructional video.
We suggest that you also CURL your dancer’s hair (not pictured here).
Level I and up: Hair in a bun (back of head, centered). Choose from one of the instructional videos below:
Classic Ballet Bun Tutorial (recommended for dancers with long/thick hair)
Alternate Ballet Bun Tutorial (recommended for dancers with short/fine hair; this tutorial uses a “bun donut”)
Did you know you can purchase a Bloom bun bag to help with your Recital hair? Click HERE to purchase one!
Hair accessories are located in the costume bag in a smaller plastic bag. At dress rehearsal, we will make sure everyone knows exactly where to place their hair accessory so all dancers look similar.
Typical placement, based on type of accessory:
Dancers with half up-half down hair:
scrunchies wrapped around hair tie/rubber band
bows placed on top (at the base) of the ½ pony (so they can be seen)
Dancers with hair in buns:
scrunchies wrapped around the bun
bows placed just above the bun
flat appliques, decorative hair combs, and pins, pinned to the right side of the head
Hairpiece placement is an important consideration during rehearsals; if changes are made, you will be notified at rehearsal or via email.
Please note: Costume pictures in parent portals may not reflect how hair should be worn or how accessories should be placed for Bloom’s dance recital. These are stock photos only.
TIGHTS
If a costume(s) requires tights, they will be included in the recital costume(s) bag. Tights may be located in the back zipper compartment of the garment bag or in a smaller plastic bag with accessories. Please remember that if your dancer is in multiple classes with costumes that require tights, they will only be included in ONE costume bag. Please do not let your dancer use these tights until dress rehearsals and recital.

Ballet Classes: pink tights
Jazz Classes (all levels): tan tights
Hip Hop and Tap Classes:
Tiny and Beginning: pink tights (unless wearing pants/leggings)

Please note: Tights are available for purchase at rehearsals/recitals if you need a replacement pair. Bloom is not responsible for runs, tears, or snags that occur during rehearsals or recitals.
SHOES
Shoes should be in good, clean condition for recital. If your dancer’s shoes have stains, holes, or significant wear, please purchase a new pair prior to rehearsal.

Adult Size Hip Hop Shoe LinkPurchased from the local store of your choice. Please confirm that they are entirely solid white and low-top.
Please note: ALL shoes should be labeled with your dancer’s name or initials (inside the shoe) before dress rehearsal. This prevents shoes from getting mixed up between dancers.
LAYERING (NUDE) LEOTARD
We highly recommend that dancers with costume changes wear a skin-toned (nude) layering leotard under their costume. This gives dancers extra support and helps them feel more comfortable for costume changes.
Please purchase a nude leo that has adjustable thin straps (no tank-style leos with thick straps) and includes a set of clear, plastic straps. These adjustable strap leos are very versatile and adapt to various styles of costumes and necklines.
Options for purchasing a nude leotard:
