Acrobatics (Acro)

This co-ed class teaches strength, flexibility, and tumbling skills! Acrobatics (Acro) is very similar to gymnastics, but while gymnastics is seen as a sport, acrobatics is seen as an art. Our Acro classes will group students into appropriate skill levels and then focus on a variety of acrobatic skills and partner tricks, as well as basic rhythm and a few dance steps. This class is recommended for a high-energy student, and both boys and girls are welcome in our acro classes at all levels!

  • Tiny Tumblers (3 - 4 yrs): This is a class for little beginners! Students will develop fine and gross motor skills and control while being introduced to acro skills. Students will also learn how to be in a classroom environment by developing their focus and listening skills and learning cooperative skills.

  • Beginning Acro (5 - 6 years): This class is designed for the student who has not taken acrobatics or gymnastics before and will focus on strength and flexibility, while also introducing basic acro skills and fundamentals. Recommendations may be made by the teacher for a student to move levels prior to Recital preparations.

  • Acro I (7 and up): This class is for the student who has a basic understanding of acrobatics/gymnastics. Students in this class should have an awareness of how to execute beginning acro skills such as a bridge, cartwheel, handstand, and forward roll. In Acro I, we will continue to focus on increasing strength and flexibility as well as mastering skills. Most beginner students will be in this class until they have mastered these skills (usually around two years) before moving to Acro II.

  • Acro II (9 and up): This class is designed for the student who has both completed an Acro I class and mastered the skills taught in Acro I. We will continue to focus on increasing strength and flexibility, while we begin introducing advanced skills. In Acro II, students will work together to perform partner tricks. Students new to Acro II will need Instructor approval prior to registration.

  • Acro III (By Skill Level): This class is designed for the student who has both completed Acro II and mastered the skills taught in Acro II. We will continue to focus on increasing strength and flexibility, as well as mastering a variety of advanced acro skills and partner tricks.

  • Acro IV (By Skill Level): This class is designed for the student who has mastered the skills taught in Acro III. We will continue to focus on increasing strength and flexibility as well as mastering a variety of even more advanced acro skills and partner tricks.

Ballet

Ballet gives dancers a solid foundation from which to learn many other forms of dance. Ballet classes improve grace, coordination, and confidence. Each class includes barre work, center floor technique, and across-the-floor combinations.

  • Tiny Ballet (4 yrs): Dancers will enjoy learning the basics and fundamentals of ballet in this class. We use age-appropriate songs and dances to introduce ballet and coordinative movement. Tiny Ballet is for our preschool students.

  • Beginning Ballet (5 - 6 yrs): Dancers will continue learning the basics and fundamentals of ballet in these beginning classes while also working to develop basic terminology with the positions of the feet, hands, and body. Beginning Ballet is for our kindergarten and first-grade students.

  • Ballet I (7 - 8 yrs): Dancers will continue to build on the basics and fundamentals of ballet, while also building a strong foundation in strength and coordination. Ballet I is intended for dancers in second and third grade.

  • Ballet II (9 - 10 yrs): Dancers will be pushed to grow as they continue training in ballet concepts and disciplines, and will also be challenged in their knowledge of ballet. Ballet II is intended for dancers in fourth and fifth grade.

  • Ballet III (11 - 12 yrs): Dancers will grow as they train in ballet concepts and disciplines, while being challenged in their technique and knowledge of ballet. Ballet III is intended for dancers in sixth and seventh grade.

  • Novice / Intermediate / Advanced Ballet (By Skill Level): Dancers will continue to be challenged in their knowledge and execution of ballet by beginning each class with additional time at the barre before moving onto center floor work, turns, and jumps. We will work to fine-tune technical execution and training of the body.

  • Pre-Pointe/Beginning Pointe/Pointe: These classes are only offered through our Cultivate program.

  • Cultivate Ballet: Cultivate is a training track for dancers looking to be pushed, challenged and given constructive feedback as they grow and excel in their Ballet and Jazz training. Cultivate classes are leveled by skill & readiness (rather than by age), and this track is highly recommended for those dancers interested in someday dancing en pointe.

  • Pointe: Pointe is a classical style of dance, which is highly recognized around the world for its distinctive look and beauty. Although pointe is highly recognizable and desired, it is one of the hardest styles to master and train in. Pointe is heavily tied to ballet. Ballet is considered the prerequisite and corequisite for any dancer who wishes to pursue pointe. Here at Bloom Dance Studio, we offer pointe to select programs and students, with a bar of standards and requirements for participation. Pointe technique is designed for dancers who pursue dance at a consistent and high level.

Any dancer on pointe at Bloom Dance Studio, whether in the Cultivate Program, Nutcracker Program, or Intermediate/Advanced Pointe class, must take a minimum of two ballet classes per week. This requirement is in place for safety reasons, as pointe work requires a deep understanding of technical alignment and ensures dancers maintain and use the correct muscles in ballet consistently.

Ballet is considered the prerequisite and corequisite for any dancer who wishes to pursue pointe. Bloom Pointe Offerings:

  • Cultivate Training Track: Bloom recommends that all dancers who wish to pursue pointe enroll in our Cultivate Program. This program is designed for dancers passionate about ballet who wish to pursue pointe.

  • Nutcracker - Land of Sweets: Blooms hosts a classical ballet production every year on an audition-only basis. This production is open to anyone who takes ballet regularly and allows anyone to audition on pointe who has 1) performed on pointe previously, 2) has a minimum of two years of experience dancing on pointe, and 3) is currently taking pointe technique.

  • Intermediate/Advanced Pointe: Bloom offers upper-level pointe classes outside of Cultivate. This class is designed for intermediate and advanced dancers who who already possess pointe shoes. It is available to Cultivate dancers seeking additional training during the week and to non-Cultivate dancers who have been on pointe previously. Admittance to these classes is by instructor recommendation.

Pointe FAQs:

  • How can my dancer receive their pointe shoes? To receive pointe shoes at Bloom, dancers must be enrolled in our Cultivate program. This program teaches the technical aspects of ballet applicable to pointe, evaluates dancers' strength and understanding, and guides them through the process of getting en pointe. Cultivate is the only pathway through which dancers can be approved for pointe at Bloom.

  • My dancer already has pointe shoes, but is new to Bloom; where do I start? If you are a dancer who received pointe shoes through training outside of our Cultivate program and are interested in pointe at Bloom, please email us at support@danceatbloom.com. We will work to find a time to assess your dancer’s pointe level and place them in the correct class.
We highly recommend that any dancer en pointe transitioning to Bloom join our Cultivate Program, as this program is designed for dancers who are passionately pursuing ballet.

  • If my dancer is not in Cultivate, how do I meet the requirement of two ballet classes a week to be on pointe? These dancers should plan to register for either two ballet classes at their level or one at their level and one level below to meet this requirement. While the lower level may not match their current skill set, we find that it allows dancers to focus on strength and simplicity as a valuable second option. (For example, an intermediate dancer should take both intermediate and novice ballet.)

Seeds

Seeds is a dance class focused on worship, both through choreographed dances and improvisational dance. The class will grow dancers in their dance skills, while allowing them to experience the power of worshiping God through movement. A portion of the class will be spent in a mentorship program, where we will pray, discuss, and dream about how we can use worship and dance ministry to impact our city. A few times a year, students may participate in a local outreach or performance (for example: retirement home performances, ministry in refugee communities, etc).

The goal of this class: Mentor our students into using the dance skills they have developed–along with the gifts and talents they have been given–to touch the world around them.
