Cultivate - Training Track

Bloom is beginning a new Ballet/Jazz Program – Cultivate.

Informational Zoom meeting scheduled for Saturday, June 25th at 10:00am. Register for Cultivate to receive the Zoom link. This meeting will be recorded for those who can’t attend.

Cultivate is a training track for dancers looking to be pushed, challenged and given constructive feedback as they grow and excel in their Ballet and Jazz training.

  • Cultivate is a track for dancers who are choosing to make dance their primary activity and focus.

  • Cultivate classes will remain true to Bloom’s positive and encouraging atmosphere but dancers should expect to be challenged and placed in a serious classroom environment.

  • Joining Cultivate would remove dancers from aged-based classes in Ballet and Jazz. Dancers will still register for Tap, Hip Hop, Musical Theater, Seeds and Contemporary with their age levels (Violets, Rosettes, Lilies, Bouquets, etc.)

  • Cultivate would be a great option for a dancer who has done a year or more of age-based classes and is looking for a more serious and challenging classroom environment.

Pre-Requisites:

  • Dancer must be 7 years old or older to join Cultivate.

  • One placement class must be taken in the summer before dancers will be enrolled. Dancers should expect to be placed NOT by age, but by skill/readiness level.  In the summer you will receive an email with placement class dates.

  • Cultivate will be a required program for our dancers who desire to dance on pointe. Once a dancer has gained the necessary strength, skill and technique required, parents will be invited to attend a meeting to learn more information and understand the expectations of being on pointe at Bloom.

  • Bloom encourages all dancers to start with age-based ballet classes before joining Cultivate.

Classes:

  • Dancers will take one placement ballet class in the summer and then be enrolled in a Cultivate Level.

  • Summer Placement class dates (dancers only need to attend one, one hour class):

    • Saturday-July 9th 1:00pm-3:00pm

      • 1:00pm-2:00pm Ages 7-11 years

    • Saturday-July 16th 10:00am-12:00pm

      • 10:00am-11:00am Ages 7-11 years

    • Saturday-July 30th 10:00am-12:00pm

      • 10:00am-11:00am Ages 7-11 years

  • Dancers will be required to take a Ballet, Jazz and Strength class during the fall season. The hours per week will increase as the dancer advances.

  • Dancers should expect to be in each level for a minimum of 1-2 years before advancing to the next level.

FAQ:

  • What can parents expect from Cultivate?

Parents can expect a one-on-one Zoom meeting in August to discuss their dancer’s schedule with our Cultivate Director. Parents will also receive two progress reports a season (in November and April) following their dancer’s in-class evaluation.

Parents can expect an end-of-season recommendation for placement next season.

Parents should expect their child in Cultivate to be pushed and challenged in a loving but straightforward environment. If parents are concerned their child may just be looking to have fun and enjoy dance, it would be best to stick to Bloom’s age-based dance classes until they’re sure their dancer is ready for a more intense dance experience.

  • Can my dancer take Ballet only and not Jazz and Strength?

No, to be in Cultivate you must take Ballet, Jazz and Strength. We believe Jazz and Strength will provide the skill and strength needed to be a well trained and well rounded dancer.

  • Can my dancer continue to take other styles of dance?

Yes! Your dancer is welcome to continue taking other classes that match the styles of dance they enjoy. Cultivate dancers will be assigned to their Ballet, Jazz and Strength class(es) but additional classes can be registered for based on student’s age and interest. As a reminder, Cultivate students receive a 50% discount on additional Bloom classes.

  • Can my dancer still participate in the Nutcracker?

Yes! We encourage all our Cultivate students to perform in the Nutcracker. This is a wonderful opportunity for dancers to put their hard work and training into a beautiful ballet production! Classes and practices for the Nutcracker will not interfere with weekly Cultivate classes. As a reminder, Cultivate students receive $50 off their Nutcracker Fee.

  • Can my dancer participate in the Performance Team?

Yes! Cultivate dancers can join the Performance Team if they are 14 and older.

  • Will my dancer perform in the Spring Recital?

Yes! Cultivate dancers will perform in the Spring Recital.

  • How many costumes should I expect to purchase for the Spring Recital?

Each Cultivate student will have 2 costumes (Ballet and Jazz). Cultivate students on Pointe will have 3. Note: this does not include additional Bloom classes your dancer might register for outside of Cultivate.

  • When my dancer gets to Cultivate 5 are they required to go on pointe?

No, parents always have the option of opting out of pointe class. Ballet, Jazz and Strength will be required but going on pointe is optional.

  • If my dancer has been in Ballet classes at Bloom, does this determine which Cultivate level they are placed in?

No, previous ballet experience does not guarantee which Cultivate level your dancer will be enrolled in. We encourage you to trust the guidance and direction of the Cultivate Director to place your dancer in the classes that will be best suited for their current skill level and where we believe we can train and grow them best.

  • Are all Level IV and Advanced Jazz, Ballet and Pointe classes going to be under the Cultivate track?

There will be options to take Jazz and Ballet classes outside of Cultivate.  There will not be options to take Pre-Pointe or Pointe classes outside of Cultivate.

  • Will she still be able to take multiple upper level ballet, pointe and jazz classes?

The option to take multiple ballet, pointe and jazz classes will be available.

  • What will the monthly tuition cost be for both the Unlimited Pass and the Cultivate track, and will it be significantly more than what we’ve been used to with the Unlimited Pass?

There will be a Cultivate Pass and a Cultivate + Unlimited Price pass price.  Pricing and the schedule will be posted on June 21st.

  • Will my dancer be able to take classes with her friends?

Cultivate is for dancers that want to seriously pursue ballet and jazz.  This is a track to focus on skills and development. If taking classes with friends is an important factor, we encourage parents to register their dancer with friends in our other age-based Bloom dance classes.
